Shutters & Shuttles

1 month to go!

You probably thought I had forgotten about the 24 before 25 list I made at the end of last year of all the goals I set for myself before I turn 25 this October. Well I didn’t. In fact, despite my blogging neglect, I have been chipping away at them all year and now, with only 1 month to go, I will do a re-cap of where I am at and what I still have left to do. So, here goes!

(Note: the ones with the stars are fully completed)

Prickly Polly

Polly the hedghog:

Poor Luna- she’s offended that we got another animal and she thinks Polly is a serial killer. Luna won’t take her eyes off of her!

Repti-con 2012

Yesterday was a fun and exciting day. Before work, my dad, Roger, and I headed towards the Factory at Franklin for a reptile show that Rogers mom told me about. There were SOO many people and tons of retiles as well! It was a lot of fun to ooh and ahh over the various color morphs and prices of all the snakes and lizards. We picked up some rats to feed Dahlia on the way out but before that, we ran across a dealer selling some exotic mammals.

The mammal dealer had a siberian chipmunk, a ferret, a chinchilla, and my favorite: a hedgehog! A beautiful young female hedgehog that is now a part of our family! We are in the process of getting her settled into her new tank and Roger is building her a house but we finally settled on a name: Polly! As I post this she is being adorable and sleeping in my lap :) She’s not all cuddly though, she is very timid and tends to prickle up a bit when she’s nervous and her quills are sharp! We’re going to keep handling her and hopefully she’ll warm up to us a bit- after all, she is less than 3 months old so she doesn’t have much people experience.

Forgotten Bahamas pictures

On the snorkeling trip we took one of the first days we were in the Bahamas, our boat captain stopped at Turtle Cay to let us walk around for a bit. It was a welcome relief from being on the boat since more than half of us were feeling mighty sea-sick. Anyhow, I had my moms camera and snapped a bunch of photos of the cay and I forgot that I never uploaded them to my computer! Well here they are!

Let’s Celebrate the Tomato!

Today was the annual East Nashville Tomato Art Festival- Roger and I first heard about it when we moved here last October but had already missed it for the year. We were pretty excited to get to go today, we even passed up a diving trip to go!

The festival is held in the historic Five Points district of East Nashville- otherwise known as Downtown- and is up and down all five streets meeting right there in the middle. While standing in the giant drawn tomato in the center of Five Points some guy actually quizzed me to see if I’d been to Five Points yet, I hesitated for a moment wondering if he meant Five Points Pizza but then answered with “we are standing IN Five Points!” He laughed when I didn’t fall for his joke. I guess my camera made me look like a tourist today but I wanted to capture this huge festival in all it’s tomato loving glory; and OH do these people LOVE their tomatoes!

There were hundreds of vendors set up selling everything from vintage to handmade and everything in between- the more tomato related, the better! Every where we turned there were people dressed up like tomatoes or wearing tomatoes on their heads! It was a wonderful way to spend a cooled down Saturday afternoon, and judging by the crowds and the sheer number of my Nashville friends I saw there, we weren’t the only people who thought so!
